de Duve Institute: Post-doctoral position on protein phosphorylation

Our research group is housed in the de Duve Institute, a multi-disciplinary and international biomedical research institute of UCLouvain in Brussels. Our goal is to broaden knowledge on the control of cell function by protein phosphorylation. In particular, we focus on AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) as a target for treating metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes. In our studies, we use animal and cell models combined with pharmacological AMPK activation for protein analysis, especially by high resolution/accurate-mass mass spectrometry (HR/AM-MS) using the Orbitrap Lumos Fusion machine recently acquired by our Institute.

The research project

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate to pursue an exciting project on the quantification of AMPK subunit expression across human, rat and mouse tissues by HR/AM-MS. The project will also involve phosphoproteomics to search for new AMPK targets.

Qualifications and skills

The candidate should hold a PhD in Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Molecular/Cellular Biology or equivalent. A strong background in protein biochemistry would be preferable. Experience with mass spectrometry would be particularly advantageous.

The candidate should have good command of English (spoken and written), good communication skills, and ability to design and perform protocols and analyze data independently while also working in a team. Supervision of 1 to 2 students (PhD or undergraduates) is likely during the project.

Specific requirements

The candidate can be of any nationality but must be on “international mobility”, i.e. he/she must not have resided, studied or worked in Belgium for more than 24 months over the past 3 years before the start of the post-doctoral position.
