SUMMARY:Diversity in proteomics
DESCRIPTION:Interdisciplinary symposium on diversity in (prote)omics11 May 2026 – University of AntwerpOver the last years\, members of the interdisciplinary ‘Beyond the genome’-project have explored the ethical dimensions ofproteomics and other data-intensive (omics) research. This exploration has led us to questions about benefits & risks\, privacy &re-identification\, labor\, Open Science\, dealing with uncertainty\, but also to questions related to diversity\, representation andinclusion in (prote)omics research. To celebrate the ending of the project\, we are organising an interdisciplinary symposium on diversity in (prote)omics on Monday11 May 2026. This symposium is an opportunity for experts and interested scholars from various disciplines to come together andopen conversations on topics like diversity\, difference\, representation\, equity\, inclusion\, and bias in (prote)omics.Specifically\, the symposium will focus on the following aspects of diversity: \n\n\n\nThe impact of Open Science frameworks on diversity and equity in (prote)omicsKeynote speakers: Bryan Gonzales (Universiteit Gent)\, Louise Bezuidenhout (Universiteit Leiden)\, and WoutBittremieux (Universiteit Antwerpen).Participation in the symposium is free upon registration.Registration deadline: 1 May 2026\, 23:59 CSTAbstract submission deadline: 10 April 2026\, 23:59 CST \n\n\n\nDiversity in (prote)omic study populations \n\n\n\nDiversity in (prote)omic researchers \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMore information and registration form on the website: www.uantwerpen.be/diversity-in-proteomics \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInvite-DiversityinproteomicsDownload

SUMMARY:BePA Proteomics Summer school 2025
DESCRIPTION:Monday August 25th – Friday August 29th \n\n\n\nMany researchers use proteomics as a research tool\, but have little idea how the technology actually works. A broad selection of proteomics experts from Ghent and beyond go through the entire proteomics workflow from sample preparation\, over data acquisition to data analysis. Basic principles are thoroughly explained while still focussing on the state-of-the-art technology used in the very rapidly evolving proteomics field.\n\n\n\nThe summer school will show researchers what the capabilities of proteomics are. Attendees will not become experts in proteomics or mass spectrometry\, but rather enable them to communicate and think along with the proteomics experts when they have to use proteomics experiments. At the end of the course\, attendees will better understand the dos and don’ts in proteomics and be able to design their own experiment in order to find an answer to their protein-related questions. Starting PhD candidates will be well prepared on the proteomics part of their project for their defence of e.g. FWO. PhD candidates that are in a later stage of their project will be able to easily integrate proteomics in their project\, to be able to prepare compatible samples and interpret and process the data on their own. \n\n\n\n\n\nProgram: \n\n\n\nBepaSS25_programDownload\n\n\n\nRegistration \n\n\n\nRegister here. \n\n\n\npricePhD student€ 0Academics (non-PhD student)€ 145 Industry€ 540\n\n\n\nA cancellation fee applies after June 1st 2025 of €50.

SUMMARY:Beyond the Genome: Ethical Aspects of Large Cohort Studies
DESCRIPTION:The Beyond the Genome symposium is the kick-starter for the Research Foundation – Flanders Junior Project “Beyond the Genome: Ethical Aspects of Large Cohort Studies” (project ID: FN 701000004). A joint project between the University of Antwerp\, the University of Hasselt and the Flemish Institute of Technological Research (VITO). It takes place on Friday the 3rd of 2023 at the Klooster van de Grauwzusters in the center of Antwerp\, Belgium.   \n\n\n\nThe symposium will focus on the shift from curative medicine towards preventive and personalized medicine. This requires the collection\, storage and processing of large personal datasets. The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union protects the personal data of European citizens. This has been applied to genomics\, yet there are many other different -omics who may or may not contain relevant personal data. With a special focus on proteomics. The symposium will focus on raising several important ethical questions and privacy risks based on the ethical\, legal and societal implications (ELSI) framework. The symposium hosts keynote speakers with expert field knowledge. \n\n\n\nConfirmed Speakers\n\n\n\n\nLiis Leitsalu (University Of Tartu/Estonian Biobank)\n\n\n\nSebastian Porsdam Mann (University of Oxford)\n\n\n\nMahsa Shabani (UGent)\n\n\n\nMassimiliano Simons (Maastricht University)\n\n\n\nJuan Antonio Vizcaino (EMBL-EBI)

SUMMARY:BePAc 2022: A proteomics perspective on protein function in space and time
DESCRIPTION:While the cellular genotype is fixed in time\, the phenotype is constantly changing in response to the fitful environment. This dynamic process is mediated through proteins. For decades\, proteomics has focused mainly on the changes in abundance of these proteins\, but recent developments increasingly allow the study of (the changes in) their cellular localization\, which has an equally profound impact on the cellular phenotype and function. \n\n\n\nEarly May\, BePA will therefore explore the most recent insights on protein function in space and time. On May 3rd\, we will have a physical BePA Spring School\, a day that walks you through the proteomics workflow and touches upon several applications in the field (limited to 80 participants). In essence\, it is a one-day summary of our four-day BePA Summer School. On May 4th\, we will line up a rich collection of national and international speakers that will illustrate where the field is standing and where it is heading. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenueFlyer of the eventImportant dates and deadlinesProgramRegistrationSponsors\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\nUniversity-of-Liège-Venue-Access-TravelDownload\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFlyer of the event\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImportant dates and deadlines\n\n\n\nRegistration opening: March 1\, 2022Abstract submission deadline: DEADLINE EXTENDED – April 22\, 2022 at 12.00pmRegistration deadline: April 22\, 2022 at 12.00pmWorkshop: May 3\, 2022Conference: May 4\, 2022 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\nTuesday 3 May 2022: Workshop on Principles in proteomics\n\n\n\n08:30 – 09:00 Registration coffee09:00 – 09:15 Welcome09:15 – 09:45 An overview of proteomics as a field: What can proteomics do for you?09:45 – 10:45 Sample Preparation 1 – Biofuids\, biopsies\, cell culture\, tissues sections and microdissection\, fractionation and enrichment\, IP-MS10:45 – 11:15 Coffee break11:15 – 12:15 Sample Preparation 2 – LC-MS acquisition\, MALDI imaging12:15 – 13:45 Lunch break and networking13:45 – 14:45 Data Analysis: Identification14:45 – 15:45 Data Analysis: Quantification15:45 – 16:15 Coffee break16:15 – 17:45 Questions on your own research: Meet-the-experts sessions17:45 – 18:45 Networking event @ La Grand Poste \n\n\n\nWednesday 4 May 2022: Conference on Protein function through space and time\n\n\n\n08:15 – 08:45 Registration and coffee08:45 – 09:00 Welcome09:00 – 09:45 Ron Heeren : Translational molecular imaging: from cell to proteome09:45 – 10:00 Flash talk – Tine Claeys : Tissue type prediction reveals protein expression patterns10:00 – 10:15 Flash talk – Sven Van Bael : Quantitative neuropeptidomics in C. elegans10:15 – 10:30 Sponsor flash talk – Bruker : Impact of TIMS technology on proteomic results quality10:30 – 11:00 Coffee break11:00 – 11:45 Charles Pineau : Mapping the human sperm proteome reveals new insights into reproductive research11:45 – 12:00 Sponsor flash talk – Sciex : Post translational modification analysis using Electron Activated Dissociation (EAD) on the ZenoTOF 7600 system12:00 – 12:15 Flash talk – Christopher Kune : Minimize peptide/protein loss due to interactions with custom consumable materials for very low concentration protein samples12:15 – 12:30 Flash talk – An Staes : Benchmarking DIA data analysis workflows12:30 – 12:45 Sponsor flash talk – Waters : Introducing new HRMS technologies for in-depth characterisation of protein structure and high resolution MS Imaging studies12:45 – 02:00 Lunch Break and poster session14:00 – 14:45 Petr Novak : Chemical probes and mass spectrometry: insight into the structure and dynamics of proteins and protein complexes14:45 – 15:00 Sponsored flash talk – Preomics : High-throughput homogenization technique for in-depth analysis of various tissue proteome 15:00 – 15:45 Kathryn Lilley : Spatial organisation of the cell15:45 – 16:15 Coffee break16:15 – 16:30 Sponsor flash talk – Thermo Fisher Scientific : Pushing the boundaries of proteomics with the Vanquish Neo UHPLC system and AI-based peptide identification16:30 – 16:45 Flash talk – Dalel Askri: Transversal Mass spectrometry approaches to follow pollinators’ health16:45 – 17:00 Flash talk – Nicolas Pierre : Improving precision of selected reaction monitoring with a two steps internal standard normalisation17:00 – 17:45 Laurent Gatto : An introduction to computational spatial proteomics17:45 – 18:00 Concluding Remarks and Poster Prize18:00 – 19:00 Closing event @ La Grand Poste \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBePAc2022_Detailed_Program_FINALDownload\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nRegistration is now closed. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSponsors

SUMMARY:BePA Proteomics Summer School
DESCRIPTION:THIS IS A PHYSICAL EVENT AT TECHNOLOGIEPARK ZWIJNAARDE (BELGIUM) \n\n\n\nMany researchers use proteomics as a research tool. BePA is organizing workshops for these users and for students early in their PhD in proteomics. In this Doctoral School (DS LSM) on Proteomics a broad selection of proteomics experts from Ghent will go through the entire workflow from sample preparation\, over data acquisition to data analysis. At the end of the course\, attendees will better understand the do’s and don’ts in proteomics and be able to design their own experiment in order to find an answer to their protein-related questions. It is a perfect occasion to get acquainted with both the wet and dry lab technologies. We plan the DS in September to help PhD candidates to prepare their defense for e.g. FWO. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration is now open through this link: \n\n\n\nhttps://forms.gle/gUhdcxnCdEjzjded6 \n\n\n\nIf this event interests you\, becoming a BePA member is something for you! You can become a member by registering right here on our website. The Belgian Proteomics Association (BePA for short) has transitioned over the past years from a group of protein experts to an organization that facilitates access to protein facilities for Belgian (young) researchers in need of proteomics. Did you know that Belgium actually is internationally recognized for its expertise? Well\, that Belgian proteomics expertise is here to help you. It doesn’t always have to be a clinical biomarker for cancer you are looking for. Just as easily we can help you find a forensic hint on a crime scene\, an HLA binding peptide antigen\, a plant seed protein\, a bioinformatics solution or a protein trace in an archeological specimen! The BePA board is now supported  by 36 experts\, representing 21 Service labs and core facilities and 30 academic labs. As a member of the European Proteomics Association (EuPA)\, we are the perfect stepping stone for networking with international proteomics experts. BePA can help you get acquainted with proteomics and its capabilities like no other organization can. \n\n\n\nTherefore\, we invite you to become a member of our organization. Here is some of the short term benefits of a membership with BePA: \n\n\n\nYou get a discount and priority invite to our activities\, which this year include this Doctoral School Introducing the proteomics workflow (4-day workshop in September) and our bi-annual BePA conference. BePAc2021 will be on Spatial Proteomics and will hopefully be in real life this year\, December 6 to 8 in Liège. You get Regular updates on all protein-related events and job opportunities within and outside Belgium. You automatically become a EuPA member. This entitles you to a discount on many EuPA events like the Early Career Researcher event that was organized on June 21th 2021 (https://www.proteomics-academy.org/copie-de-escp2021-workshop) and the Human Proteome Organization (HUPO) conference\, when it is held in Europe. Finally\, you get a KVCV membership\, free of charge! KVCV brings together all chemistry-related organizations in Flanders and organizes regular webinars\, like the one we jointly organized on May 5th. You will also receive the Mens&Molecule magazine.  Finally\, a BePA membership provides you with a direct and easy contact with all the Belgian proteomics experts!

SUMMARY:OCTOPUS: The new primary research record!
DESCRIPTION:Dr Alexandra Freeman spent 17 years making science and natural history documentaries at the BBC before taking on a role as Executive Director of the Winton Centre for Risk & Evidence Communication at the University of Cambridge. After seeing the scientific publishing system ‘from the inside’ she came up with the idea for Octopus\, a system designed to change the incentive structure for the dissemination of research. \n\n\n\nOctopus received funding and support from the UK’s governmental science funder earlier this year and is being built in partnership with the educational digital infrastructure provider Jisc for launch in spring 2022. Join us if you want to know how Octopus can revolutionize the scientific world! \n\n\n\nYou can find more information here: https://science-octopus.org/about \n\n\n\nIf you are interested\, don’t forget to register through the following zoom link: \n\n\n\nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZMufuiqrD8uHdccBNJ6_XBkYt1XwUmuNMZj?fbclid=IwAR1EEuC5SKgi2usT9U_PoMycfGyEV-GleWS5JeIkXWQPYFMxL5uTDAdUkdI
